The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) reminds Hoosiers the 2019 individual tax filing deadline is today, Monday, April 15. Paper tax returns require the postmarked date of today, April 15, to be considered on time. Electronic filing must be submitted online before tonight at midnight, including filing through the Indiana freefile program (INfreefile).
Still not going to be able to file by the deadline? File an extension with Department Of Revenue or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If the federal extension is granted, an individual automatically has an extension with Indiana. The extension pushes the tax filing deadline back to October 15, 2019 for federal returns and November 14, 2019 for state returns.
Remember if an extension is granted, it only extends the time a customer has to file, not the amount of time to pay taxes owed. Customers are still required to pay taxes owed by Midnight tonight.
