The Fremont Police Department along with administrative officials at Fremont Community Schools were made aware of a safety concern that was brought up Thursday morning involving a Fremont Community Schools bus. Law Enforcement and school officials immediately implemented a safety plan of action and contained the situation.
In a news release, Superintendent Dr. William Stitt said at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday (March 14, 2019) a bus driver found a .22 caliber shell casing on a bus. An investigation by the high school administration and vocational school staff, along with the Fremont Police Department was conducted. The situation was quickly deemed not to be a security threat.
Dr. Stitt said they “were able, through some good work, to figure out who could have been on the bus” that morning. Stitt said the school took every precaution by implementing their safety protocol. He said that no one was ever in possession of a weapon.
Dr. Stitt said he was pleased with the prompt response from school faculty and local authorities once the items were identified. “Our response was exactly how you would expect and hope for". Dr. Stitt said that this kind of incident affects the school community. “It is obviously something really disturbing to the school community. We want our school to be a secure and safe place”, Stitt said.
