Fatal Accident Sunday Night on 120
Monday, February 4, 2019

One person is dead after a crash in Steuben County.

Sunday night just before 7 PM the Steuben County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash on State Road 120 near the intersection of County Road 700 North.

Upon arrival, first units found a car upside down and resting partially in the east-bound lane of 120. Just east of the car, officers also found a freight-liner in the westbound lane that part of the accident scene.

Reports indicate that the car crossed the center lane and sideswiped the freight-liner.

Investigators say the airbags in the car deployed and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities said the driver was not wearing a seat-belt and alcohol may have played a roll in the crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner's Office from blunt force trauma. The identity of the deceased will be released upon notification of the family.

The driver of the freight-liner, Bartholomew Tinder, age 60, of Waldron, Michigan, was uninjured.

Assisting the Sheriff's Office was the Fremont Police Department, Angola City Police Department, Fremont Fire/Rescue, Steuben County EMS, Steuben County Coroner's Office and the Indiana State Police Commercial Carrier Enforcement.
