November 2018 Jobless Rates Stable In SW Michigan
2019-01-04

Jobless rates for November were stable around Southwest Michigan.

Data released by the Department Of Technology, Management and Budget shows that St. Joseph County saw their jobless rate go up from 3.3 percent in
October to 3.9 percent in November. That's still lower than one year ago when the jobless rate was 3.7 percent.

Branch County dropped from 3.5 to 3.3 percent. Hillsdale County also saw a drop in their jobless rate from 3.4 to 3.3 percent. Cass County remained at 3.5 percent.

Dr. Leonidas Murembya (mer-em BE-ah), State Coordinator of Regional Economic Research, says hiring picked up in November in Retail Trade, due in part to the Holiday shopping season. However, seasonal job cuts were reported once again in Construction and Mining, along with Leisure and Hospitality.
